EDGEWOOD, Ky. — The family of record-holding Kentucky quarterback Jared Lorenzen announced his funeral services for Wednesday, July 10.
The 38-year-old Fort Thomas native passed away July 3 at St. Elizabeth Hospital after battling an infection, kidney and heart issues.
WTVQ in Lexington said a celebration of Lorenzen's life will be July 10 from 2 to 6 p.m. followed by a burial service at St. Pius X Church in Edgewood, Kentucky.
Lorenzen played for the Cats from 2000 to 2003, setting multiple NCAA, SEC and school records for passing and total offense. He also played two seasons in the National Football League, winning a Super Bowl ring with the New York Giants.
“Since I’ve been here, it has been obvious that he was one of the most popular players in school history," Coach Mark Stoops said. "He was a proud member of the Kentucky football family and he will be greatly missed by the Big Blue Nation.”
The family has asked that in lieu of flowers, people donate to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center for Better Health and Nutrition and United Mitochondrial Disease Foundation.
