Parents explore homeschooling, online options as school districts work on plan for fall semester

While districts work to finalize fall school plans, some parents consider homeschooling.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Most area schools are still working to come up with a plan for the fall semester while we battle COVID-19. Not all parents are comfortable sending their kids back to school this fall.

The spokesperson for the Indiana Department of Education said some parents have expressed an increased interest in homeschooling.

Bob Schneider has also seen interest in homeschooling from parents across the country since COVID-19. Schneider owns Rainbow Resource Center, a company that provides curriculum and consulting for parents who want to homeschool.

“Part of the reason people like a classroom setting is the social interaction,” Schneider said. “And if that’s limited, it wouldn’t be nearly as appealing to learn in an environment like that.”

Schneider said a lot of parents are simply exploring their options right now.
