LOUISVILLE, Ky. — 'We will get through this together,' it's a line we've heard a lot over the past few months and a constant in a song called Kentucky As One. "We want it to be much more than just a cliche or a saying, but something we can really live out and do it and help each other out through this," said Jeff Everman who is a project coordinator for Kentucky As One.
Kentucky as One is a collaboration of artists, who created this song to bring people together, "There are people hurting all over, not just us but people all over the world hurting right now, I think we all need encouragement to know we're all in it together," said Erika Gaines who is a project coordinator for Kentucky As One.
It's an accumulation of eighteen singers and 8 musicians all from different genres and ages, coming from twelve counties across Kentucky. "and when we put all the tracks together, it's really amazing how polished the final project is," said
One of the singers is Matthew Pinkham, who just graduated from Elizabethtown High School this year. Matthew walked across the stage to get his diploma last week. After seeing his three older sisters graduate from Elizabethtown, it wasn't the graduation he was expecting. "So the weirdest part is not being able to experience it in that way," said Matthew.
He was asked to be in the Kentucky As One song just as he was learning he wouldn't get to play with his basketball team in the state tournament, or go to prom. "It was just cool that it ended in the same time frame because it was just one last thing for me and happened to be music which I love, so I think it's pretty cool," said Matthew.
