LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Health experts at Norton Children's Hospital warn they have seen a spike in RSV.
Norton told WHAS11 News this November, about 1,600 pediatric RSV cases have been diagnosed.
The current spike in the respiratory condition is higher than any peak during the 2022-2023 season.
Last week, Norton's said they saw a record number of kids test positive for RSV.
Officials said its too early to tell if this season of cases is higher than the last.
And on Thursday, they urged families to take precautions.
"Never hesitate to call your pediatrician if you have any concerns whatsoever with your child, especially in your younger children, even infants; don't hesitate to give your pediatrician a call to make sure your child can be seen," Dr. Mark Brockman Jr. with Norton Healthcare said.
RSV symptoms of RSV include runny nose, decrease in appetite, cough, fever and wheezing.
Doctors said you should watch for symptoms, keep up good hygiene and stay away from vulnerable populations to reduce your child's risk.
Doctors are also seeing a rise in COVID-19 and flu cases.
Although it isn't anywhere near the numbers seen in 2020, health experts are still reminding people to still take preventative measures, like getting vaccinated, cleaning and washing your hands.
"Even though COVID is still here, and as I've said before, we still have RSV and influenza, we have treatments and for the first time we have vaccines for all three," Dr. Mark Burns with UofL Hospital said.
Right now, UofL Hospital has 18 patients with COVID; two are in the ICU and one is on a ventilator.
