'Continue to find innovations in those services': Louisville bar passes out emergency contraceptives

The new healthcare company, Julie, also started a donation program through which one pill will be donated to a local partner for each one purchased.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A bar in the Shelby Park neighborhood teamed up with a healthcare company to provide emergency contraceptives to women.

Trouble Bar, the Kentucky Health Justice Network and a new healthcare company called Julie passed out donated pills at the bar.

"It's a tribute to how many completely legal ways there are for us to take care of one another and provide public health services. And it's a tribute to the ways that we will continue to find innovations in those services," Trouble Bar co-owner Kaitlyn Soligan said.

The healthcare company launched in September and makes the emergency contraception.

With the launch of their product, they started a donation program through which one pill will be donated for each one purchased. The donated pills will be distributed to local partners across the country.

Julie's co-founder Amanda Morrison says the company is hoping they can cut through the bureaucracy of health care.

"Julie is to be your big sister, younger, aunts, cousin in the fight," she said. "She's kind of been there, done that. And we're just here to have grounded relatable conversations with everyone. So we're excited hopefully about all the education and impact work that we're bringing to communities everywhere."

Trouble Bar was the first stop among Julie's national partners.
