Steven Lawson's attorneys file motion to dismiss charges in Crystal Rogers case

According to court documents, Steven Lawson was promised immunity for cooperating with the investigation.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — One of the men charged in the Crystal Rogers case has requested that the charges be dismissed, or his testimony be excluded from evidence.

Steven Lawson's attorneys claim he was promised immunity in exchange for his testimony, but the state went back on its offer by charging him with conspiracy to commit murder and tampering with physical evidence.

His attorney said Lawson was interviewed by investigators in 2015, the FBI in 2020, and testified to a grand jury in 2023, all in exchange for a promise of immunity according to court documents.

Then he was indicted because "he assisted in moving Crystal Rogers' car."

June interviews mentioned in the court documents show where Lawson asked authorities if he was telling them everything they wanted to hear and that he even said he wants "to be on [their] team."

According to the documents, the prosecutor "made it clear" Lawson's statements could not be used against him.

"If you are 100 percent honest with us I am going to help you," investigators said during the interview. "I am going to help you. It's on record, it's on tape, whatever you say to me I am not going to use against you."

Investigators also added they were "going to give [his] son the same deal" to Lawson according to documents.

His attorney asked for the motion to be heard on March 21, when both Brooks Houck and Lawson's son, Joseph Lawson, are also expected to be in court.
