LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) of Kentucky announced on Wednesday they're appealing to the U.S. Supreme Court to block the ban on transgender youth care.
This is part of the ACLU's federal case against Kentucky's transgender healthcare ban.
Their case is on behalf of seven transgender young people and their families, and was linked to a similar case in Tennessee.
The ban is outlined in Senate Bill 150 and went into effect on July 14.
The Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals already struck down the ACLU's challenge in September, and now they're asking the Supreme Court to take their case.
The Supreme Court needs to accept the case in order for it to be heard at all.
But there's also a similar case by the ACLU focusing on transgender healthcare going through the state's judicial system.
It was heard before the Kentucky Supreme Court. No decisions have been made in that case yet.
