Kentucky police investigate Louisville inmate's death at state penitentiary in Eddyville

Police said they responded to the facility in Eddyville on Friday evening after jail staff performed CPR on the Louisville man.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Authorities are investigating a death of an inmate at the Kentucky State Penitentiary.

Kentucky State Police said they were notified around 5 p.m. EST on Friday about jail staff performing CPR on 31-year-old Ivan Orantes-Pierce of Louisville at the facility in Eddyville.

Around 5:31 p.m., police said Lyon County EMS requested the coroner to respond. Troopers were also on the scene to conduct a death investigation.

Few details are known surrounding the death of Orantes-Pierce but police have determined no foul play was suspected.

An autopsy for Orantes-Pierce is set for Sunday.

The investigation into his death is ongoing.

Eddyville is about 188 miles southwest of Louisville.
