LOUISVILLE, Ky. — State officials provided an update on Kentucky schools reopening, but did not give a clear picture of what it would look like.
The Kentucky Department of Education has directed schools districts to prepare for possible short, medium and long-term COVID-19 closures during the next school year.
Lieutenant Governor Jacqueline Coleman said a task force is currently deciding what the fall could look like, and said a lot of the decisions will be in the hands of district leaders.
"Not every district is the same size or has the same makeup or anything like that. So, we are working to empower the local community leaders to take these safety expectations and make the best of this situation," Coleman said.
KDE said intermittent closures in the fall could be anywhere from one day to more than 11 days. During that time, schools will need to be prepared to transition to non-traditional instruction.
