LOUISVILLE, Ky. — According to a press release from the Kentucky Labor Cabinet, beginning June 29, in-person UI assistance in Frankfort will be available by appointment only.
The appointment only change comes a few days after Governor Andy Beshear announced that unemployment insurance has been officially transitioned to the Commonwealth's Labor Cabinet.
No in-person unemployment help took place this week. The week prior thousands of Kentuckians lined up have their claims fixed.
“I know those lines ended up making national news,” said Beshear. “It struck me the first day everybody said ‘oh, this is a great idea,’ and well, it’s not what the idea is, it was necessary to help people.”
The latest numbers provided show that for March, Kentucky still had 6,900 pending claims.
The Kentucky Labor Cabinet said the appointment only in-person unemployment assistance is to ensure the safety of those needing assistance and to limit the spread of COVID-19.
The appointments from June 29 on will continue until further notice and be available Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., except for state holidays.
In-person UI assistance will also be available by appointment only on June 29 and June 30 in Grayson near Ashland and Owensboro during from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. The Kentucky Community & Technical College System will be hosting the events at the following locations:
- Ashland Community and Technical College, Technology Drive Campus, Rocky Adkins Pavilion, 902 Technology Drive, Grayson, Kentucky 41143
- Owensboro Community and Technical College, Technical Building, 4800 New Hartford Road, Owensboro, Kentucky 42303
