FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) - The Kentucky legislature has met in the Old State Capitol where Henry Clay once spoke and lawmakers passed two versions of the state's Constitution.
The Kentucky House and Senate met briefly in the historic building on Tuesday, passing one resolution to commemorate Presidents' Day and recognize the Kentucky Historical Society.
The legislature met at the Old State Capitol from 1830 to 1910 after two previous Capitol buildings burned down. The building hosted historic events, including Kentucky's decision not to secede from the United States during the Civil War.
The legislature looks different than it did in the 19th century, with many women and people of color holding office. Democratic state Rep. Jim Glenn, who is black, said it was important for him to "participate in what we couldn't participate before."
