'I was so excited!': Lexington man hits it big on Kentucky Lottery scratch-off

“I first thought it was $100, but then there were more zeroes.”

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — If you ask, you shall receive.

A man has won $100,000 after buying a scratch-off ticket in November at a gas station in Lexington.

According to the Kentucky Lottery, Ricardo Vasquez purchased the Pink Diamond ticket at a Speedway on Winchester Road.

Vasquez described to lottery officials that he went in and said to the clerk, “give me the winning ticket.”

After getting the ticket, he went back to his car and began scratching the ticket. After it revealed he matched the candle symbol, Vasquez realized he hit the jackpot.

“I first thought it was $100, but then there were more zeroes,” Vasquez said. “I couldn’t believe it!”

He recalled to officials that he went back into the store after winning and shared his excitement with the clerk on duty.

“I won. I won,” he said.

The Kentucky Lottery said Vasquez received $71,500 after taxes.

He said he will pay off his car and save the rest.

Speedway, who sold the ticket, will receive $1,000.
