Tennessee man found guilty in death of Kentucky police officer following DUI crash

Casey Byrd, 38, was found guilty in the death of Officer Logan Medlock after crashing into his cruiser in London, Kentucky in October 2022.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The man accused of driving drunk and crashing into a Kentucky police officer and killing him has been found guilty.

A jury found 38-year-old Casey Byrd guilty in a Warren County courtroom on Friday.

Byrd had been on trial in the death of Officer Logan Medlock.

Police said in October 2022, Byrd was traveling on Barbourville Road in London, Kentucky when his vehicle entered the intersection of South Main Street and hit a police cruiser driven by Medlock.

Medlock died at the scene.

Byrd was found guilty of murder and driving a car while intoxicated.

The jury has recommended a 20-year sentence for Byrd.

He is expected to appear in court for sentencing on Aug. 26.
