LFD said the fire was so heavy it spread to a neighboring home.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — One person is dead after a house fire in Louisville's Parkland neighborhood early Thursday morning.

Louisville Fire Department (LFD) crews were dispatched to a residential structure fire with a report of a possible rescue in the 700 block of S. 33rd St. around 4 a.m.

LFD said crews arrived on scene to find a heavy fire coming from the front porch and sides of a 1.5 story home. The fire then spread to a neighboring home causing "significant damage."

Crews went into the homes to see if anyone was inside and put out the flames.

LFD said one person was rescued from the main fire building and taken to the hospital where they later died.

Crews said it took 28 firefighters 25 minutes to get control of the fire with multiple handlines. A response for an extra engine was also needed.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by arson.
