LOUISVILLE (WHAS11) – A 15-year-old died on Sunday night after she was hit by a train near Pope Lick Park, the Louisville Metro Police Department said.
LMPD said it was reported to them just after 9:30 p.m. They said two teenage pedestrians were on the tracks of the Pope Lick train trestle, at Taylorsville Road and South Pope Lick Road.
Savanna Bright, 15, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Jefferson County Coroner's Office.
The second female is in serious condition at the hospital.
The two females were hit by a Norfolk Southern train.
LMPD is continuing to investigate.
The Pope Lick Trestle has gotten a lot of attention over the years due to a local legend.
There were at least two confirmed deaths in 1987 and 1988, and many injuries and close calls, attributed to "Legend Tripping" looking for the Pope Lick Monster.
The most recent death happened in 2016 when a woman was hit by a train while searching for the legendary monster.
