LOUISVILLE (WHAS11) -- One officer, identified as Darrell Hyche, was shot twice near Bardstown Road and Fegenbush Lane at Carey Avenue and Derby Avenue on Feb. 1 in the Buechel area.
Hyche is a narcotics officer and was released from the hospital as of Friday evening. He was shot in the head and face. LMPD's Chief Steve Conrad said, "...he will, thank God, recover."
Hyche was shot during a traffic stop, that pertained to a narcotics investigation, on Thursday, LMPD said. The officers stopped a white Chevy pick up truck with four suspects inside. A second officer, identified as Bradley Woolridge, was the only officer to return fire after shots were fired in the truck.
LMPD Chief Steve Conrad confirmed, Thursday, one suspect was killed and a second was shot. The injured suspect is in the hospital and in grave condition. The injured suspect was identified as Billy Riggs.
The Jefferson County Coroner's office released the name of the suspect who was fatally shot on Thursday. The coroner's office says 32-year-old Alexander W. Simpson died from multiple gunshot wounds.
The remaining suspects have been identified as Mark Risner and Roger Goodman. Again, one of them was killed and the other was injured. Goodman is charged with trafficking a controlled substance. Risner is charged with trafficking a controlled substance. They were not injured in this shooting.
After the officer was shot he was rushed to University Hospital by ambulance with a police escort.
