FORT CAMPBELL, Ky. (WHAS11) – Two soldiers have died after an AH-64E Apache helicopter crashed in the local training area on Fort Campbell.
The crash happened just before 10 p.m. on Friday. The soldiers were of the 101st Combat Aviation Brigade, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault).
The crew was conducting routine training at the time of the accident. There were no other casualties.
Fort Campbell Fire and Emergency Services are on site and recovery operations are ongoing.
The names of the deceased have not be released.
“This is a day of sadness for Fort Campbell and the 101st Airborne,” said Brig. Gen. Todd Royar,” acting senior commander of the 101st Airborne Division and Fort Campbell. “Our thoughts and prayers are with the Families during this difficult time.”
The cause of the accident is under investigation
