Louisville Fire: Patio furniture caused blaze atop 800 Tower apartment complex

A large plume of smoke could be seen coming the roof of the multi-story apartment complex in downtown Louisville.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A potentially dangerous situation ended within minutes hundreds of feet in the sky above downtown Louisville.

The Louisville Fire Department (LFD) responded to a fire on the roof of the 800 Tower Apartments complex on South 4th Street around 5 p.m. Thursday.

Crews were on the scene within minutes and found smoke coming from the roof of the building, according to LFD spokesperson Donovan Sims.

When crews got to the top of the high rise, they found some of the building's patio furniture was on fire. Roughly 26 firefighters were able to extinguish the blaze within minutes using fire extinguishers, Sims added.

No residents were injured or displaced due to the fire. LFD Arson investigators are looking into the cause of the fire.
