LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The Kentucky Air National Guard base operations have returned to normal following reports of an active shooter which cased a flight at the Louisville Muhammad Ali International Airport to be diverted to Lexington.
According to spokesperson Lt. Col. Dale Greer, an exercise scenario involving a simulated active shooter was in practice Saturday morning when a report of an active shooter engagement around 9:10 a.m.
The Kentucky Air National guard said they could not determine if that report was based on the exercise or a real-world event.
Security was dispatched to the location and Metro Police also responded out of caution.
The incident also caused a brief ground stop at the airport which lasted about 10 minutes.
Natalie Chaudoin, a spokesperson for the Louisville Regional Airport Authority, said Delta flight 3821 from Detroit had been diverted to Lexington but resumed to Louisville once the all clear was given.
“All terminal operations remained normal and were not impacted,” she said in a statement.
