'Recognize the profound impact this loss will have': Beloved Anchorage Middletown Fire and EMS sergeant drowns

The department said the 35-year-old drowned on Monday while swimming at Barren River Lake.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Anchorage Middletown Fire and EMS are mourning the loss of one of their own. 

The department said Sergeant Christian Smith, 35, drowned on Monday while swimming at Barren River Lake.

He had been with the department since 2014.

"As we navigate this difficult time with limited information, we recognize the profound impact this loss will have on Christian's family, his crew, and our entire department," spokesperson Jordan Yuodis said. "The days and weeks ahead will be challenging, but it is crucial that we stand united as a department."
