'This is still ongoing': Another birthday spent searching for Andrea Knabel

"You are always welcome to come home and know that you will be loved," Andrea's dad said.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Andrea Knabel's family spends her 42nd birthday wondering and searching.

Andrea has been missing for 4.5 years, she was last seen the night of Aug. 13, 2019 leaving her sister's house in Audubon Park.

"This is still ongoing and who knows where this could go," said Mike Knabel, Andrea's father.

The say of Andrea's birthday, her family is left with more questions than answers.

"Sometimes you feel foolish because you know what the percentages are when someone has been gone this amount of time. But we have no evidence whatsoever that violence has occurred. We hold out hope, you retreat somewhat inside yourself and to your family for strength," Mike said.

And while years of possible leads have all lead to dead ends, Andrea's family holds on to hope she'll return home.

"If there's any chance of finding her still, we are going to risk doing whatever it takes," Mike said.

Just this week, Mike tells WHAS11 that he received a tip from a man in Indianapolis who said he saw a woman who looks like Andrea and calls herself Andrea.

The Indianapolis man says the woman was in distress and was taken to the hospital.

Mike took matters into his own hands, contacting the Louisville Missing Persons Unit, Louisville Metro Police Department, and the Indianapolis Police Department...hoping this potential lead could finally lead him to his daughter.

"This has happened dozens of times, and you don't know if it's true. To this point, you expect it not to be true, but you know you have to follow through. I mean what if it is?" Mike said.

4.5 years of strength, resilience, and hope - the Knabel's search will never waiver.

"We hope that somebody out there can give us that piece of information that can help detectives bring her home," Mike said.
