LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Angela Chao, the sister-in-law of Kentucky's Senator Mitch McConnell, died in a car accident on Sunday. She was 50 years old.

Chao studied at Harvard Business School and followed in her father's footsteps serving as the CEO of the shipping company Foremost Group, which he started.

The company published a statement to Hellenic Shipping News saying they are deeply sad and that Chaos's leadership will be deeply missed.

The Chao family released a statement on Monday.

Part of it reads:

"Angela is a bright woman, a charismatic and visionary leader and much-loved by all her sisters, our entire family and friends...She believed deeply that the true treasures in life are family, friends and helping others. Losing her at such a young age is something we never even imagined, and our entire family is devastated with grief."
