Kentucky Derby Festival opens applications for 69th Pegasus Parade

They are looking for participants in the following categories: Equestrians, specialty units, marching bands, inflatables and floats.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Have you ever wanted to participate in the Kentucky Derby Festival’s annual parade but did not know how?

The KDF says applications are being accepted for the 2024 Zoeller Pump Company Pegasus Parade.

They are looking for participants in the following categories: Equestrians, specialty units, marching bands, inflatables and floats.

“The march down Broadway each spring is made special by those who participate, and all the work they put into their units from the costuming and choreography to the music and decorations to bring smiles to all those who are watching,” KDF President and CEO Matt Gibson said in a statement.

This year’s theme is “Celebrating Derby 150” – a nod to the 150th running of the Kentucky Derby which takes place on May 4, 2024. This theme, they explain, will help those decide on decorations and music used by those participating.

The floats in the parades compete for a variety of awards including originality, eye appeal, theme representation, animation, attention to detail and enthusiasm.

Those wanting to participate can submit their applications online by clicking here. The last day to apply is Jan. 31, 2024.

The Pegasus Parade will mark 69 years and will take place on Sunday, Apr. 28 at 3 p.m. It will travel west on Broadway from Campbell to 9th Street.
