LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Drinking beer is benefitting animals in Kentuckiana.
The Arrow Fund is teaming up with Noble Funk Brewing Company in Old Louisville for the Furry Derby Paw-Tay on Saturday, April 27.
Though it's not required, guests and their pets are encouraged to dress up in their Kentucky Derby best for the fundraiser, which will feature Noble Funk's full food and beer menu, plus adoptable pets.
To add to the fun, Noble Funk will have special brews on the menu named after animals.
"We have the Bella Berry Papaya sour," Zack Hibbs, with Noble Funk, explained. "It's a blueberry papaya sour, very nice for a good spring day like we're hoping to have."
There will also be a mocha coffee stout on tap called the "Husky Boy," which Hibbs said is a favorite among the brewery's regulars and staff.
The Arrow Fund works year-round to provide treatment and find homes for abused or neglected animals. Its executive director said the work they do isn't just about pets; it's about people too.
"Kentucky is still way down there at the very bottom when it comes to animal abuse, which correlates to human abuse," Thom Ham, Executive Director of the Arrow Fund explained. "If we can get the link together between the animal abuse and the human abuse, we need to find a way to stop it."
Noble Funk plans has pizzas, calzones, salads, and sandwiches on the menu. Prizes for the best Derby-costumed dogs and humans will also be awarded for those who participate. The fundraiser is free to attend, but TAF will accept on-site and online donations. In addition, a portion of Noble Funk's proceeds will go toward the non-profit.
