Wild Lights: Asian Lantern Festival extended at Louisville Zoo

The festival originally opened at the zoo in March 2020 and was a popular attraction for guests before closing, according to Louisville Zoo Director Walczak.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The Louisville Zoo announced the Wild Lights: Asian Lantern Festival Presented by T-Mobile will be extended after it was postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The festival originally opened at the zoo in March 2020 and was a popular attraction for guests before it closed, according to Louisville Zoo Director Walczak.

“Every day we have been asked about Wild Lights and we are delighted to be able to work with Tianyu Arts & Culture to extend the festival and allow more of our community the chance to see these beautifully illuminated lanterns and learn more about Asian culture,” Walczak said in a press release.

General admission to the zoo began on July 4, and admission to Wild Lights will start on July 9, running Thursday-Sunday through August 28. Entry to the festival will be 7:30-9:30 p.m., and zoo will close at 11 p.m.

Guests must purchase tickets online at WildLightsLouisville.com in advance. To help manage capacity, guests will select a time and date to visit the lantern festival.

Those who purchased tickets prior to the postponement will be allowed entry to the festival any day it is open by showing their tickets at the ticket windows, according to the zoo.
