LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Authorities are investigating after an incarcerated man was found unresponsive in the downtown Louisville jail Tuesday evening.
A Louisville Metro Department of Corrections spokesperson said officers found the 54-year-old man in medical distress and unresponsive just before 8:20 p.m.
Officers and medical staff started performing life-saving measures until Louisville Fire and Louisville Metro EMS took over care they said. The man was pronounced dead at the hospital just before 9 p.m.
Chief Jerry Collins launched an internal investigation and the Public Integrity Unit is also investigating the spokesperson said.
Mental health services have been made available for everyone at the jail.
