The Back Door is selling everything in retirement sale; Here's when

Residents will be able to purchase everything from restaurant equipment, pool tables, neon lights, wall art, flat screen TVs, safes, glassware and more.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — If you’re looking to get a piece of a beloved Highlands bar’s memorabilia, you’ll soon have your chance.

Last week, The Back Door announced it was closing after 39 years in business. Now, the bar and grill plans to host a retirement sale in June and owners are looking to sell everything.

Residents will be able to purchase everything from restaurant equipment, pool tables, neon lights, wall art, flat screen TVs, safes, glassware and more.

The sale will be held at the Back Door on Bardstown Road from June 14 through June 23.

According to a Facebook post from The Back Door, the main reason for the permanent closure is the loss of the bar's beloved founder and owner, John Dant.

Dant’s son took over the business after his father’s passing last October.

"We tried to pick up the pieces and keep the business running as best we can, but not all dreams can be reality. It's thanks to you amazing folks that we were able to stay open as long as we were, and we are forever thankful to you for that," Taylor Dant said.

The Back Door's closing has prompted speculation about the future of Mid City Mall across Louisville. WHAS11 spoke with the property's owner about the future of the popular retail spot in the heart of the Highlands.
