Barnstable Brown Kentucky Derby Gala donates $1M to UK's Barnstable Brown Diabetes Center

The premier Kentucky Derby party has donated more than $21 million to fight diabetes.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — This year’s Barnstable Brown Gala has donated $1 million to fight diabetes.

The “premiere Kentucky Derby party” made the donation to the University of Kentucky’s Barnstable Brown Diabetes Center in Lexington from their proceeds of their 2024 gala.

For more than three decades, the gala has donated more than $21 million for diabetes treatment and research.

“When we started the Barnstable Brown Gala over 36 years ago, our goal was to build something lasting to help the millions of people who suffer from diabetes. Our 2024 Gala was in honor of my granddaughter Catherine, who was recently diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes. The Barnstable Brown Diabetes Center has exceeded all of our expectations," Tricia Barnstable Brown said in a statement. "This gift is only possible because of the generosity and kindness of our many ticket buyers, sponsors and celebrity guests.”

The Barnstable Brown Diabetes Center was established in 2008 and treated more than 22,000 patients in 2023.

The annual Barnstable Brown Gala is held the first Friday in May in Louisville and regarded as one of the "10 Best Parties in the World" by Condé Nast.

Celebrities like Janet Jackson, Patrick Mahomes, Peyton Manning, Sheryl Lee Ralph, Wynona Judd and Tom Brady are some of the famous faces that have made appearances.
