LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) – Co-founder of one of Kentucky's largest network of auto dealerships, World War Two veteran, and community leader, Bill Swope has passed away.
The Swope family telling WHAS 11 News that Bill passed away at his home on Sunday, February 18, at age 95.
The last of the founding generation of the Swope Family of dealerships, Bill and his brother Sam opened their first dealership in Elizabethtown in 1961.
That business eventually grew to include dealerships in Louisville, Elizabethtown, and across Central Kentucky.
In addition to the car business, Bill also served on the city council, a variety of boards, and opened the Swope's Cars of Yesteryear Museum.
His funeral is Thursday at 12:30 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church in Elizabethtown.
