CLARK COUNTY, Ind. — Officials with Jefferson County Public Schools say a beloved band teacher has been killed in a southern Indiana plane crash.
Joshua Warren, 30, was killed after a 1973 single-engine Cessna went down near New Washington, Indiana around 3:30 p.m. Saturday.
Warren was the sole occupant of the plane.
Jefferson County Public Schools released a statement on the incident Sunday saying in part:
“It is with deep sadness that we inform you about a loss to our school family. Josh Warren, our beloved band teacher and the leader of our Marching Band and our Pep Band, was killed yesterday in a small plane crash in southern Indiana. Josh was the pilot of the plane and the only occupant. It is a terrible tragedy and this loss might raise many emotions, concerns, and questions for our entire school, especially our students.”
JCPS says their Crisis Response team met virtually Sunday to gather resources to offer Fern Creek staff and students.
They say even though they can’t meet in person the district will make every effort to help students as needed.
Officials with the Federal Aviation Administration and National Transportation Safety Board are expected to conduct the investigation.
A cause of the crash has not yet been determined.
