LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Ben Richmond, who formerly led the Louisville Urban League for nearly 30 years, has died.
Richmond served as the president and CEO of the organization in 1987 until his retirement in 2015.
During his tenure with the Urban League, Richmond helped push economic development in west Louisville while championing diversity and inclusion across the city.
"Ben was a prominent figure in the Urban League movement who left a towering legacy for our organization and this city," the Urban League said in a statement.
The organization plans to release more information about his passing and legacy in the coming days.
The Louisville Urban League helps African Americans as those at the margins in attaining social and economic equality and stability through advocacy and services.
Funeral arrangements for Richmond have not yet been announced.
