Third tuition-free Bezos Academy breaks ground in Russell neighborhood

The new school will be located on South 29th Street, just off River Park Drive.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — City officials and education leaders were on hand as a groundbreaking was held for a new tuition-free school in west Louisville.

The Bezos Academy is Montessori-inspired and will be located on South 29th Street, just off River Park Drive.

The preschool will feature four classrooms for a total of 80 children and will follow a full-day, year-round schedule.

Bezos Academy covers all the operating expenses at no cost to families. It will provide breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks.

During Monday’s groundbreaking, Lisa Dischinger, chair of the LDG Foundation, spoke about taking a leap of faith to put her own kids in Montessori school

“We put our son in Montessori school, and it changed our lives. He learned how to love to learn. It wasn't long after that that my daughter did Montessori and from there our education path became easy because our children learned how to learn," she said.

Bezos Academy plans to open its doors next year in Russell, Okolona and Fairdale.

Families earning about $120,000 a year for a family of four with children aged 3 to 4 years old are eligible to apply.
