Blue Lick Elementary debuts new playground after vandalism two years ago

Two years after vandals set playground equipment on fire, staff and students got a chance to check out the new digs days before the start of the new school year.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Two years after a school playground was hit by vandals, a new one was unveiled just before the start of the new school year.

Blue Lick Elementary held a ceremony during its Back to School Bash on Tuesday, celebrating its brand-new space.

The school put more than $400,000 into its playground thanks to fundraisers and insurance funds.

In October 2022, two juvenile vandals set fire and destroyed several pieces of playground equipment at the school.

Since then, students have been using PE equipment.

The first day of school for Jefferson County students begin on Aug. 8.
