Louisville elementary students deliver sensory 'cool down' kits to judge. Here's why.

The kits are designed to help children who are dealing with anxiety or high stress.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A Louisville judge received a very special delivery from local elementary school students on Monday.

Bowen Elementary School students delivered sensory "cool down" kits to Family Court Judge Derwin Webb.

The kits, which are filled with puzzles and small toys for kids to relax with, are designed to help children who are dealing with anxiety or high stress.

After seeing the success the kits had at their school, the students branched out and made more for local hospital waiting rooms and doctor's offices. As the need continues to grow in the community, the students are prepared to meet the demand.

On Monday, the students delivered the kits to Judge Webb, who had requested them.

"I get a chance to see kids everyday, when they come into the courtroom, I see the anxiety that they have, the stress that they have when they walk into a courtroom," Webb said. "To have something like this -- that can kind of help them cool down a little bit to know that they're in a safe spot, safe place -- helps them to be a better witness for me [and] gives me information that helps me make better decisions for them as a judge."

The students said they started out with 48 kits just for their school and have now expanded to more than 100, which can be found at various hospitals, schools, family law attorney's offices and, now, courtrooms.
