Summer program helps Louisville students build reading, math and writing skills

The six-week program offered to middle and high school students helps them excel in the classroom.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A national program is making its way to Louisville to help students succeed.

Breakthrough Collaborative will launch in the Metro as “Breakthrough Louisville" and will offer a six-week summer program for middle and high school students to help them build their math, reading and writing skills.

Prior to partnering with the Breakthrough Collaborative, the program originally operated as Summerbridge Louisville.

“We are looking for students who are starting to slide a little bit in middle school that don’t know how to take the initiative to build on their academic success,” director Kate Lindsay said. “We bring them in, they’re in small classrooms with young teachers and just having that environment in this beautiful school – it really helps them be seen.”

The summer program focuses on west and south Louisville and Hikes Point.

It is hosted at Louisville Collegiate and serves about 60 students each year.
