Clark Memorial Bridge rescue firefighter to sit behind Calipari at Wednesday's UK game

The firefighter who rescued a Sysco driver from a truck dangling over the bridge will have a prime spot at an upcoming University of Kentucky game.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The Louisville firefighter who was hoisted over the Clark Memorial Bridge (2nd Street) in downtown Louisville in a harness for the daring rescue of a semi driver has been making national news.

On Wednesday at 9 p.m. he will be in one of the biggest spotlights of college basketball, sitting behind University of Kentucky Coach John Calipari for the Vanderbilt game.

The Louisville Fire Department confirms to WHAS11 News that 29-year-old Bryce Carden and his wife Caitlynn have been given two tickets in the second row.

In interviews, Carden said he is a huge UK fan. He said his parents went to the university and that’s where they met.

Carden also revealed his father died 6 years ago following complications from surgery but was such a dedicated Wildcats fan that he couldn’t go out in public and watch the games. He had to stay home and “holler at the TV.”

Carden attended the University of Pikeville where he played college baseball.

He’s been with the Louisville Fire Department for six years.
