'Building Buddies' helps JCPS students learn compassion, communication

Fern Creek High School is know for it unique skill classes, including plumbing. But now, those students are working on something special with the class next door.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Two classes at Fern Creek High School have combined for a special mission.

The high school is know for it unique skill classes, including plumbing.

But now, those plumbing students are working on something special with the class next door called "Building Buddies."

It's a special program where the plumbing class is sharing their skills with students with disabilities.

A Jefferson County Public Schools spokesperson said the students are building small projects together, like gingerbread houses.

For students with visual impairments, its the perfect hands-on work.

They said this kind of collaboration provides lessons in communication and compassion for everyone.
