LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) Residents, in Butchertown, are fighting back against a proposal to renew the operating permit for the JBS Pork Plant.
Residents mostly complained about the rendering smell of the livestock.
'It smells like death mixed with Clorox with something trying to cover it up,' resident Patti Pugh Moore said.
The Metro Air Pollution Control Board said they have issued four objectionable odor violations to the company in the last five years. Three of those remain unresolved.
'Butchertown is open for business including JBS, but we're open for companies that follow the law and obey the rules that we ask you guys to set forth for us to protect us,' a resident said.
JBS's current operating permit expires on June 30. They can continue to operate until a decision on their renewal is made. There is no date set for that.
