LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) – It's a dimly lit room, filled with art supplies. It's not a place that screams "Las Vegas," but that is how Connie Moody describes it.
"That is like my Vegas and what happens there stays there," Moody said.
Connie has spent a lot of time in this room over the last few years.
"I am on my second round of chemo right now," Moody said.
After battling Stage 3 breast cancer in 2013, Connie's cancer came back. It is now Stage 4 and has spread to her bones.
This is the room where she comes to art therapy with Nancy Plymale
"Sometimes it is easier to non-verbally express some feelings than talk about some difficult things," Nancy Plymale, a licensed professional art therapist, said.
"Nancy she has heard me cuss, she has watched me cry, you know I have laughed I have gone through every emotion a person can go through in that art therapy room," Moody said.
Moody says art therapy, painting and writing in her art journal, has made all the difference in dealing with her cancer.
"In this particular journal, I put a little sack and some strips of cardstock, things for God to handle and when something was just too much for me, I would write it down and let God handle it. It’s not mine anymore," Moody said.
Moody says she tries to be brave for friends and family, but in this room she can let it all out.
"I feel like I need to be strong and brave in front of them, even if maybe I am not feeling so strong and brave at times and when I am in art therapy, once again, it’s my Vegas and if I need to cry about something I absolutely can, and I can put it out on paper," Moody said.
The show will be called "The Art of Living" on March 29th in the James Graham Brown Cancer Center Lobby from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
