LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A top official who has been leading Louisville’s transit system has announced her resignation.
TARC executive director Carrie Butler will leave her post at the end of the year.
Butler joined TARC in August 2020 when the organization was plagued by many problems including investigations involving personnel and financial improprieties from the previous administration; the COVID-19 pandemic and the challenges of declining ridership and revenue and a reduced workforce.
“We are grateful for Ms. Butler’s service and all that she has done to steer TARC forward during the challenges of the last few years,” Mayor Greenberg said in a statement. “Since Day 1 my team and I have been committed to building a better Louisville and robust and sustainable public transit is a core part of that vision. We look forward to identifying TARC's next dynamic leader and will initiate a national search immediately."
The Mayor’s Office said an interim executive will be put in place as they conduct a national search for a permanent candidate.
Butler will remain with TARC as a consultant for a transition period for 6 months after her resignation.
