Kentucky man dies after firearm discharges inside gun store, police investigating

A customer was viewing the firearm when it discharged inside the Carrollton gun store, striking 50-year-old Chad Wainscott.

CARROLLTON, Ky. — A man is dead after a firearm discharged inside a Carroll County gun store over the weekend.

Kentucky State Police (KSP) said authorities responded to a gun store on Whites Run Road around 8:30 p.m. on Saturday.

When police arrived, they found 50-year-old Chad Wainscott being treated by EMS for a gunshot wound.

According to KSP, a customer was viewing and manipulating a firearm that was for sale when a single round somehow discharged and struck Wainscott.

Other customers inside the store quickly attempted life-saving measures, police said.

EMS transported Wainscott to a local hospital, where he later died from his injuries.

State police said the person who was physically holding the firearm when it discharged is cooperating with investigators and witnesses at the scene have been interviewed.

At this time, KSP said no charges are expected and foul play is not suspected.

KSP's investigation remains ongoing.
