Father arrested after 3-year-old girl dies from self-inflicted gunshot wound in Fern Creek

E'Monta Goss admitted to loading a handgun and placing it under a couch before falling asleep, LMPD said.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The Louisville Metro Police Department (LMPD) is investigating after a young girl was fatally shot at an apartment complex in Fern Creek Thursday morning.

According to police, the shooting happened in the 5500 block of Overbrook Woods Place just before 9 a.m.

LMPD said when officers found the child at the apartment complex suffering from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. She was transported to Norton Children's Hospital by EMS, but later died from injuries.

The Jefferson County Coroner's Office identified the girl as Aubree Goss.

LMPD said the child's father, E'Monta Goss, has been charged with second-degree manslaughter and possession of a handgun as a person with prior felony convictions out of Michigan.

According to Goss' arrest citation, he admitted to police that he "loaded and placed the handgun underneath a couch inside the apartment" where the child could access it. 

He said he fell asleep and woke up to the sound of a gunshot and noticed the young girl had been shot. 

The child was found shot at an apartment complex on Overbrook Woods Place.
