Churchill Downs Inc. planning to renovate Grandstand Club and Pavilion

Construction is scheduled to end before Kentucky Derby 151.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Churchill Downs Inc. announced on Wednesday that another renovation is scheduled to begin in August at Churchill Downs.

Spokesperson Tonya Abeln said the $80-$90 million renovation will happen at the Grandstand Club and the Pavilion.

Abeln said this new renovation will update the ticketed seating options and improve the available amenities to guests in the grandstand area. The construction is scheduled to be completed in time for Kentucky Derby 151.

Instead of the outdoor aluminum bleachers, there will be 8,300 seats Abeln said. The seating options will include both covered and uncovered stadium seating and rail boxes along the dirt track.

“Like all of our recent enhancements at Churchill Downs, the renovation of the grandstands represents our commitment to providing unique guest seating options while honoring the historic significance of the property in order to achieve a world class sports and entertainment experience for our guests,” President Mike Anderson said.

Other renovations include improving amenities for 2,800 guests in the existing third floor box seats under the Starting Gate Suites Abeln said. The existing second floor amenity area will be transformed into an outdoor garden environment, and expansion to the second floor will add an outdoor balcony for dining.
