Churchill Downs report record-breaking wagering during Spring Meet this year

A staggering $708.3 million were wagered during the 150th Spring Meet at Churchill Downs.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — More money was wagered than ever before during this year's Spring Meet at Churchill Downs.

Churchill Downs reported that people bet a total of $708.3 million during the action-packed 43-day stand, which wrapped up on Sunday.

The staggering total broke the 2022 Spring Meet record by more than $90 million. For some perspective, Spring Meet betting totaled just $368.8 million 10 years ago.

Churchill Downs said in a news release the wildly successful six-day Derby Week from April 27 to May 4 brought in $446.6 million, including an unprecedented $320.5 million dollars on Derby Day.

“From record prize money to large fields, high-quality participants, robust wagering and large payouts, this year’s record-breaking Spring Meet delivered all-around positive results,” President of Churchill Downs Racetrack Mike Anderson said. “The horse owners, jockeys and trainers provided exceptional competition on the racetrack, and our team and partners delivered an outstanding guest experience. We extend our sincerest appreciation to the horseplayers and the greater Louisville community who made this year’s Spring Meet so special and enjoyable.”
