City awards $1.1M in grants to homeless outreach nonprofits

Mayor Craig Greenberg calls it his Homeless Initiative Funding which allocates funds to organizations providing homeless services to those in need.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Metro Government is giving more than $1 million in grants to local organizations helping combat Louisville’s housing crisis.

Mayor Craig Greenberg calls it his Homeless Initiative Funding which allocates funds to organizations providing homeless services to those in need.

Greenberg’s office said organizations were selected through a “rigorous” application process where they had to demonstrate how their priorities matched those of the mayor’s administration and the 2024 Community Needs Assessment.

“These community partners were chosen for their incredible commitment to critical service delivery that improves the lives of our neighbors in crisis,” Greenberg said during a Tuesday briefing. “It takes strong partnerships like these to help improve the lives of all our citizens, to lift people out of poverty, and to make our city safer, stronger, and healthier.”

Organizations like Wayside Christian Mission will benefit from the grant. CEO Nina Mosely said the funds will help operate their low-barrier center.

“It's a place where folks don't have a lot of demands. They can come in off the street off the camps and they can get acclimated to being inside. There are case managers who can help them. It's a process of earning their and working with them to the final goal of permanent housing,” Mosely said.

Other organizations receiving funds include Southwest Family Ministries, Wellspring, and Saint Vincent de Paul.
