City officials and the Louisville Urban League announced they've entered into a development agreement for the 24-acre site at 30th Street and Muhammad Ali Boulevard.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) – The city plans to pledge millions to revitalize Heritage West in the Russell neighborhood.

City officials and the Louisville Urban League announced they’ve entered into a development agreement for the 24-acre site at 30th Street and Muhammad Ali Boulevard.

As part of the agreement, Metro Government will provide 10 of the $30 million to build a track and field complex that will also include retail and green space.

“You ain’t got to run track to benefit from this. This is about how you change a community – how you invest in a community in a way that leaves them whole that helps them be better,” Saddiqa Reynolds, Urban League president & CEO said.

The agreement must go through Metro Council for approval.

Construction is expected to begin in early 2019.
