CLARKSVILLE, Ind. (WHAS11) -- The Clarksville Police Department has opened a new substation in the southern part of town. The police department renovated an old storm water building on Harrison Avenue into a new station. The Chief said it's just one of several major changes happening in his department.
In May, Clarksville Police began district patrols concentrating in the South, Middle and Northern parts of Clarksville. The department also switched from 8 to 12 hour shifts to increase manpower.
The goal is for the new substation to help cut down on crime and response times.
"The substation here is not only a visual deterrent, but it helps reduce response times. The officers are able to do their paperwork here locally and get back out on the street. It gives people in the community a local place to go to file their reports or come in here and report any kind of wrongdoing,” Chief Mark Palmer said.
The doors to the substation are always open, allowing residents to report any problems they have at any time.
