Louisville's Coalition for the Homeless receives $10K donation

Molina Healthcare donated the funds through its Charitable Foundation.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The Coalition for the Homeless got some help to fight the housing crisis in Louisville on Monday.

Molina Healthcare gave the Coalition $10,000 for it's RX: Housing fund.

The fund is specifically dedicated to helping people facing chronic homelessness by quickly moving those in the houseless community into permanent housing.

The Coalition for the Homeless explained this fund is crucial for getting people off the streets in a quick manner.

"This is money that is very key to keeping people from spending very long periods of time either out or in a shelter system because we have a wait list, both for shelter and for housing," Natalie Harris, the executive director of the Coalition for the Homeless, said. "So the quicker we can move people through the system, the more people we can serve and get off the street into shelter.

Harris said the money will help people move into a new home through moving expenses, as well as clearing any debt preventing them from doing so.

Molina Healthcare donated the funds through its Charitable Foundation, as well as its Passport subsidiary, which aims to provide quality healthcare to low-income individuals.

The Coalition started the RX: Housing initiative in 2011 according to its website.
