LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The Louisville Urban League and other community members gathered this morning to send a strong message to Metro Police. They are calling for a thorough investigation into the case of Jarrus Ransom.
Video shows the moment officers pulled Ransom from his car during a traffic stop and punched him repeatedly.
According to police, Ransom lunged at the officers and tried to destroy some pills found in the car.
The group is asking for the officers to be terminated and for police to do an immediate review of implementation of force.
"We are capable of reviewing policy and understand that, quite often, the abuse we suffer at the hands of police are supported by policy and beyond the scope off official review; however, our frustration lies in the fact that this level of force is often used only in black and brown communities," Sadiqa Reynolds, of the Louisville Urban League, said.
LMPD Chief Steve Conrad said they are investigating the incident but it will be weeks before they release body camera video in the case.
