LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS 11) --The EPA says a new study reveals some good news for residents in the Riveside Garden Community.
Ever since a landfill started operation near their homes, they have felt like their deep roots have been contaminated even decades after the landfill shut down
Every five years the EPA does a study on the landfill and the surrounding community.
Officials say the former site of the landfill is now protected.
One lifelong resident has stood toe-to-toe against the landfill for years.
The EPA will begin its next study in 2018.
Now that the land is almost completely back to normal the agency hopes to find a developer that can use the land.
